The most common questions I get for clients heading to Walt Disney World or Disneyland is how to survive in the summer.  With the Florida and California heat, and the summer vacation crowds, you can quickly turn a potentially amazing vacation into a stressful trip.  But if you follow a few key tips you'll make your vacation dreams come true

•   Tip #1: Take Advantage of Rope Drop- Rope Drop is the term we Disney Parks nerds use for park opening.  I always recommend to clients to get to the park at opening in order to minimize crowds and heat.  As soon as the gates open head over to the most popular ride in the park to get a Fastpass, and then enjoy the shorter lines in the cooler weather.  Avoid parks with Extra Magic Hours in the morning and if a park had Extra Magic Hours the night before head there-- its usually the least crowded park.

•   Tip #2: Work in Breaks- It is tough in the summer time to go all day at a Disney Park, especially if you have young kids.  If you follow tip #1 than I recommend working in mid-day breaks, especially when staying at one of the Disney Resorts.  Head back to the resort and grab lunch, take a nap or enjoy some pool time with the family.  All offer less crowded and cooler options to enjoy family time.

•   Tip #3: Drink Plenty of Water: This sounds like a no-brainer, but you have to remember to drink lots of water!!!  Summer time at Disney World will be in the 90's with high humidity levels.  This plus crowds and lots of walking can lead to dehydration... No vacation was ever improved by a trip to the ER!

•   Tip #4: Wear Comfortable Shoes- You are going to do lots of walking and lots of standing... Those cute new shoes or sandals may sound great, but by hour number eight you will wish you had worn something comfortable.  You are at Disney, so throw out desire to be cute and go for comfort instead!

•   Tip #5: Eat Meals Off Peak- We always try to eat outside of peak times... That means grab a late breakfast/early lunch or late lunch/early dinner.  Not only will this help get you out of the heat during some of the hotter times of the day, but you are more likely to enjoy your meal without lots of people around... And make those dining reservations!

•   Tip #6: Bring Your Patience- You are about to take vacation during peak season at the most popular tourist attraction in the WORLD.  So come with patience and realize you may not get to see every nook and cranny of the Disney Parks... I head down multiple times a year, even sometimes without my kids, and I still do something new on each trip.  Focus on enjoying time with your family and if you enjoy the trip try to come back for different things to experience!

•   Tip #7: Take Advantage of a Disney Travel Agent- A Disney Travel Planner is a Disney Parks and Disney Cruise expert.  Their job is to help you plan a great vacation and they know how to manage the busy times of the year.  Plus our services are FREE to you!  I cannot make the crowds disappear, but I can arm you with a plan to minimize their impact!

Jenn Whitney, a Disney College of Knowledge Graduate, is a wife and mother of four children. Jenn first experienced Disney on her honeymoon and since then she has been hooked-- doing adult-only trips, large family gatherings and even traveling to Disney while seven months pregnant!  She specializes in providing best-in-class service to clients seeking vacations to Disney Destinations, cruises and the Caribbean.  Follow her on Twitter at @JennCMTravel and contact her at Jenn@WhiteGloveDestinations.com.

One of our favorite parts of Disney Parks is their constant evolution.  We're now hearing about a new live stage show coming to Disneyland-- "Mickey and the Map Makers".

The show begins with the timeless character of Yen Sid, the wise sorcerer from Disney’s classic “Fantasia,” who appears within his mysterious workshop to tell us of a wondrous map with the power to take dreamers to any place imaginable. Yen Sid sets his mapmakers to work painting the enormous map – a map so large it covers the entire breadth of the stage.

This is when our hero Mickey Mouse enters, full of curiosity, and dreams of being more than just an apprentice. He’s a bit of a rascal and doesn't realize what he’s about to get into. When Mickey picks up a brush to paint the map’s one unfinished spot, he soon discovers this is no ordinary map. That’s when his adventures really begin!

The mapmakers are an ensemble of male and female performers who excel at singing, dancing and acrobatics. They wield enormous, magical paint brushes as they follow Mickey on his journey, helping bring to life fantastic worlds of music, color and beloved characters.

For the first time, Disneyland Resort will observe Three Kings Day as part of the celebration of holidays. Three Kings Day activities will be held Jan. 6-8, 2012, at Zocalo Park in Disneyland park. The festivities add to all the holiday fun, including beautiful décor throughout the park, nightly snowfall on Main Street, U.S.A., and the special “it’s a small world” Holiday and Haunted Mansion Holiday attractions.
  • Disneyland will celebrate Three Kings Day, also known as Día de los Reyes Magos, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 6-8, 2012, with special décor, food and entertainment that showcases this Latin American holiday tradition.
  • Three Kings Day is celebrated in many Latin American countries as part of the Christmas story. It commemorates the day the three kings (the magi or “wise men”) followed the star to Bethlehem and presented their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
  • The Three Kings Day celebration at Disneyland will be centered around Zocalo Park (Spanish for “Town Square”) in Frontierland. Walt Disney envisioned Frontierland as a showcase of America’s Western and Mexican heritage and this celebration will continue that vision.
  • Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse will appear in Fiesta costumes and other characters will join them: The Three Caballeros: Donald Duck, Jose Carioca and Panchito.
  • Entertainment highlights include folklorico dance along with musical performances  by the Grammy-winning Mariachi Divas.
  • Bilingual activity hosts will join children in face-painting, coloring, crown decorating and other activities.
  • Special food carts will appear in Zocalo Park for the occasion, serving Three Kings Day treats. The seasonal menu at Rancho del Zocalo restaurant includes tamales and Mexican hot chocolate.
